Behind Our Name
Trencadís is a Catalan name for an artistic method that was popularized by Antoni Gaudi. Trencadís is a mosaic-like effect, achieved by bonding together random pieces of broken ceramics, glass, or marble tiles. These mosaics are an explosion of color, with each unique little piece of individual beauty, yet when bounded together form one cohesive and magnificent artwork. The colors that predominate much of his work are blue, green, and yellow, which, for Gaudi, symbolized Faith, Hope and Charity.
David and Deb were introduced to Gaudi’s work when they visited Barcelona in 2018, where they were captivated by the stunning beauty of his mosaics. Each mosaic appeared to come to life under the Barcelona sun as the light bounced off each individual piece.
Our foundation is rooted in this artistic principle of Trencadís, guided by the core belief that the unique, intrinsic beauty bestowed on each of us forms a beautiful mosaic of vibrant light and life when bound together by Divine Love. Collaborating with grantee organizations, Trencadís aims to uplift communities that embody this creed of unity through diversity.
Our Founders
David and Deb Quinones live in Chatham, Massachusetts. High school sweethearts, they were raised in Cincinnati, Ohio and both graduated from Indiana University in 1984. After getting married, they moved to Hartford, Connecticut and later to the Boston area where they raised their two children. They are blessed to have a family that reflects the diverse beauty of God’s creation. David and Deb’s worldview and passion to serve those on the margins have largely been shaped by their faith and their experiences of living in a diverse family.
They serve as Co-Presidents of Trencadís Foundation whose mission is: Illuminating the beauty of God’s diverse creation. The foundation has partnered with Christ-centered, faith-based ministries that largely serve marginalized and disadvantaged communities in the United States, Haiti and Kenya.
Outside of the work of the foundation, David serves on a number of non-profit boards and has served in lay leadership roles at his church. Professionally, David had a 26 year career in Management Consulting and “graduated” in 2010 as a Global Managing Partner for Accenture.
In addition to her work in the foundation, Deb comforts those who are in hospice and serves as a Deacon at their local church. She also enjoys spending time with her two grandchildren.
